{"id":51,"date":"2025-09-12T07:03:10","date_gmt":"2025-09-12T07:03:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/slotsofgarden.club\/blog\/?p=51"},"modified":"2025-09-12T07:03:10","modified_gmt":"2025-09-12T07:03:10","slug":"aga-survey-reveals-widespread-support-for-regulating-prediction-markets-as-sportsbooks","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/slotsofgarden.club\/blog\/2025\/09\/12\/aga-survey-reveals-widespread-support-for-regulating-prediction-markets-as-sportsbooks\/","title":{"rendered":"AGA survey reveals widespread support for regulating prediction markets as sportsbooks"},"content":{"rendered":"<ul>\n<li>AGA has surveyed Americans &#8216; sports opinions on prediction markets and platforms, suggesting that they should be regulated like sportsbooks<\/li>\n<li>A notable majority disagreed with the CFTC regulating futures contracts, particularly those involving sports<\/li>\n<li>AGA is pushing to have prediction platforms relent from tapping into sports markets<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The\u00a0<strong>American Gaming Association<\/strong>\u00a0(AGA) announced new research, the findings of which suggest that the majority of US sports bettors are all for seeing prediction markets regulated in line with existing sportsbook regulation.<\/p>\n<h2>AGA doubles down in a new survey that prediction markets are a form of sports betting<\/h2>\n<p>In other words, the common perception\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.americangaming.org\/four-in-five-u-s-voters-say-sports-events-contracts-should-be-regulated-like-other-online-sportsbooks\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">amongst sports bettors<\/a>\u00a0is that prediction markets are indeed a form of gambling, even though platforms such as\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/casino.guru\/news\/gambling-industry\/kalshi--robinhood-and-crypto-com-receive-cease-and-desist-letters-in-arizona-7490\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Kalshi<\/a>, Polymarket, and PredictIt have been successful in arguing against this.<\/p>\n<p>Yet, the new research successfully captures public sentiment,\u00a0<strong>with 85%<\/strong>\u00a0of respondents arguing that prediction markets are more akin to gambling than financial instruments.\u00a0<strong>Only 6% of respondents agreed with the latter statement<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>As to AGA, President and CEO\u00a0<strong>Bill Miller<\/strong>\u00a0had this to say<i>: &#8220;This research has made it clear: Americans know a sports bet when they see one\u2014and they expect prediction markets offering sports event contracts to be held to the same rules and consumer safeguards as every other state-regulated sportsbook.&#8221;<\/i><\/p>\n<p>Then, 80% of respondents said that they believed this vertical needs to be regulated the same way as sportsbooks are \u2013 something that prediction platforms have fiercely objected to.\u00a0<strong>65%<\/strong>\u00a0of the respondents agreed that prediction markets can be supervised by the\u00a0<strong>Commodities Futures Trading Commission<\/strong>\u00a0(CFTC).<\/p>\n<p>Furthermore,\u00a0<strong>84% of Americans said that such contracts<\/strong>\u00a0ought to only be offered by state-licensed sportsbooks, with 69% of American sports gamblers also agreeing with this statement.<\/p>\n<h2>The public opinion clearly favors sportsbook-like regulation for prediction markets<\/h2>\n<p>In other words, AGA\u2019s research indicates that there is a prevalent opinion among the general public and sports gamblers, with the majority agreeing that prediction contracts need to be subject to stiffer oversight.<\/p>\n<p>70% of respondents said that\u00a0<strong>prediction platforms offering sports event contracts are not acting in good faith<\/strong>, i.e., they are exploiting legal loopholes to offer the same product.
